How are diamonds formed?

Naturally mined diamonds are formed at a high temperature deep inside the Earth – approximately 87-120 miles down into the Earth. Volcanic eruptions are responsible for bringing the diamonds closer to the surface of the Earth, where they are then extracted by miners. The name ‘diamond’ derived from the Greek word 'adámas' – which means ‘unbreakable’.
