Jewellery Care
At aspire we want to make sure your jewellery last's you a life time. Now while were always here for any advice you need we've come up with a few helpful tips you can carry out without us.
Now diamonds are one of the hardest substances known to man right? We've seen them used by crooks in the big Hollywood movies to cut through glass! They're used on the end of drills to help cut through particularly hard rock. The rich and famous even cover their iPhones and iPods with them! While some of the above is correct (personally we've never tried to rob a bank with them) they must be treated with care. For example a round brilliant cut diamond will have around 78 individual facets cut into it. Say it's a sunny Sunday afternoon and you're in the garden planting your newest addition. When you stand back to admire your work 'ting' you accidently knock your diamond engagement ring with your gardening fork. Applying a sharp amount of pressure to one of these facets can cause the diamond to crack or chip. We HIGHLY recommend when doing any manual labor you remove your diamond jewellery first to avoid damaging it.
Now we would always suggest if you can get to see us or would like your ring professionally cleaning to contact us first. However we understand that might not always be convenient for you. There are a few ways you can keep your diamond sparkling at home.
There have been quite a few urban myths passed around overtime such as leaving your jewellery to soak in coca cola overnight or boiling it in hot water. DON'T EVER USE EITHER OF THOSE METHODS! They can highly damage your jewellery so don't always believe what auntie Irene used to do!
The stand out best method IF you can't get to have your jewellery professionally cleaned is the following. Get some warm soapy water (fairy liquid works best) and an old soft tooth brush. Then gently brush around your item of jewellery removing any dirt or soap that may have become lodged in it. Once you have done this give it a quick rinse and Walla! Your diamond jewellery is sparkling again.
When storing your diamond jewellery it's always worth thinking if it is indeed a safe place to leave it. At home do you have a small safe or hideaway to keep it? At the gym make sure your locker is secure? Always consider if it's the best and safest place to leave it. Storing large amounts of jewellery together in one place can also be a problem as they will scratch against each other so always try keeping them separate.
Now this is one of the most important things. ALWAYS get your diamond jewellery insured. If anything happens whether it's stolen (fingers crossed it never is!) or it sustains some accidental damage insurance will cover this meaning you won't have to pay through the nose to get it fixed. We can't stress this enough! You can get detailed information on how to do this on our dedicated jewellery insurance page.
